Ohio Pharmacist Loses Michigan License Contact: Melanie Brown 517-373-9280 Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs JUNE 19, 2013 - The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has immediately suspended the Michigan license to practice as a pharmacist of Viralkumar Mukundray Thaker, R.Ph., of Findlay, Ohio based on his convictions in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. On February 5, 2013, Thaker was convicted of one count of Health Care Fraud Conspiracy; two counts of Health Care Fraud, Aiding and Abetting; and one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Controlled Substances, Aiding and Abetting, all felonies. Thaker was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 24 months for each count to run concurrently, and ordered to pay costs and restitution in the amount of $215,653.00. On June 13, 2013, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Thaker's license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction.
