I'm an Italian videogame artist actually living in Manchester I had the same idea as you guys, to collect matlib files, to create a huge selection for everyone to share. The only thing that i was thinking about, is to make a website where people can login upload download fix or update materials and shaders. The website won't be the only way of distribution, Multimedia CD Roms will be aviable to buy.
Download free textures, scripts, shaders, plugins and more for 3ds Max, Maya, Mudbox and other Autodesk. Elephant skin stencil animal texture wrinkles.
There are few others ideas. Just let me know what u think about it!:) P.S. Sorry for my English:beer.
Yep, this topic rocks!:buttrock: I'm pretty new here, but I thoght someone might find something useful in this shader I made a few days ago, just for fun, and to do something in the 10 minutes waiting for my beloved coffee to be ready.:D Just some tweaking around with abot cellular maps. Nothing more. But I've liked the final result. By the way, the shader is a Brazil Advanced Shader, just because the blurry reflections, but the diffuse, and displacement maps can be used elswhere. Oh, of course, the material itself: Can be downloaded here.(No maps, only proceduals): Matlib (- A. HI ALL, i'm new here and this is my first reply in all Cg forum:beer: i'd like to thank folical9 for those great car paint maps in MR. I used 3dsmax some years ago and now i'm restarting it again because now renders are fast and good.
I use Vray and FR-stage1 but i like a lot final gather too. It creates an amazing natural lighting diffusion:eek:.
I'd like to add some materials for FR in your mat library so everyone could use them (they are 2 cute glass mat), but i haven't space web so i'd send them to someone who will post images i created with those mat too. Cu soon AsDsA.
Originally posted by visualboo Yes, but if it requires anything besides just max, then if you don't mind. Just write a small txt file saying the required plugs/scripts and put that in the zip. I'm also thinking it could be cool to separate these into categories like> Brazil shaders Vray shaders Max shaders etc.
And then maybe under those have sub-categories for things like metal, wood, etc. What do you guys think? Have you found any good brazil shaders yet? Cause im looking for some also:bounce. I'm starting to get it. The missing dll's are from plugins i don't have installed.
I found that i needed mr_subscatter and color correct. I got them both but the latter does not seem to have been installed (still a missing message).
I still don't see which one in particular philipbruton is refering me to. I tried the electric from blur. Made a search of.dlt files and found them all to be in stdplugs so thats where i threw electric.std. Just in case, i copied it also to plugins. Upon initializing max, i got two messages saying that each of the dlt's failed to initialize. Anyway, maybe this very helpfull thread should not be burdened with these novice issues. Thanks very much.
Hi guys, I don't mean to be rude or anything. But I'm under the firm impression that it's more important to discuss porperties and difficulties with shader building just for the simple fact that you'll be able t recreate it and know why you're where you are sorta.

Please correct me if you think I'm wrong. But I spend an equal amount at painting and figuring out the right texture as I do tweaking the settings of the materials and renderer. I mean sooner or later you must now what to look for? Or am I stupid?:surprised.
It is a shame virtualboo couldn't keep up with the pace i was well shocked to see when he started this thread due to a great responsibility it was sad to see how it ended people got tired of slow updates, complains, shouts and swears even the pure idea was good cuz of the keyword 'share' but it lacked a keyword 'open source' to back it up it was a shame really. Is there an online material library for 3dsmax community? If not how about a discussion about creating one? I am more than willing to donate my own matlib's and skills. Recently, i've been experimenting with self-illuminating materials on planes in order to acheive studio-like are lights.
My most recent experiments have led me to colored planes, based on hdri-studio.com's products. I devloped a matlib with 11 different schemes using only standard 3ds max materials. I tested with the glow (lume) MR shader, but the Output standard shader gave out much better results. Without further addo, i give you the library and a test render.
